"Interview with Maternity Nude"

1. How did you come to the decision to model nude?
This was my first pregnancy, and I thought it would be a wonderful way to capture this beautiful time in my life.

2. Did you contact the artist or did he approach you to model?
My husband and I were in Eric’s studio on a First Friday when he discreetly approached me about possibly modeling. He mentioned that he’d always wanted to paint a pregnant woman and wondered if I’d be interested. I contacted him a week later to tell him I’d like to model, but I was worried that he might have changed his mind.

3. How did you go about telling your friends or family you were going to model nude?
At first I didn’t tell anyone. Then after our first session and after seeing a few paintings, I could hardly contain myself. I told my parents and close friends and relatives.

4. What were some of their reactions to your experience?
Surprise, shock, envy, and some people thought I was downright crazy!

5. How long was your modeling session?
An hour to an hour and a half.

6. Were you comfortable, for example hot or cold when you modeled?
Well, I was pregnant, so I did have a few hot flashes! But overall, I was very comfortable.

7. Did you have to hold a pose for a significant period of time?
No. I think I held most poses for about ten minutes or so. Very doable.

8. Models generally create the poses and sometimes are given suggestions by the artist. What was the case in your modeling session?
Since I’d never modeled before, I would create a pose and ask for his opinion. He gave me the freedom to create poses that were comfortable for me.

9. Were scars, pubic hair, tattoos, body shape or piercings an issue for your modeling session?
Body shape was a factor. I had three modeling sessions...one for each trimester of my pregnancy…and I felt very fat towards the end of my pregnancy.

10. Were you comfortable modeling?
I was very nervous initially but became more comfortable as time passed.

11. What about Eric made you comfortable modeling for him?
His professionalism and respect for me as a woman and model. He provided privacy before the session as I disrobed, and he gave me a few moments to get used to the idea of being naked in front of him.

12. Did you feel comfortable with your body image before you modeled?
No, not really.

13. Did modeling help your self-confidence?
Yes.

14. How do you feel about your body since you have modeled nude?
I’m more comfortable with my body, and I’m not as concerned about the number on the scale in my bathroom!

15. What do you like most about your body?
My toes. Just kidding! Ummmm, I’d have to say that I like my athletic build.

16. Did you find modeling nude erotic?
No.

17. How do you feel about the paintings of you?
I love them, and I’m very proud of them!

18. How were you paid for your modeling session?
I was given the option of either accepting payment in monetary form or by choosing paintings. I chose to take home two amazing paintings…Eric McRay originals…and they’re of me and my unborn child…how awesome is that?! I’m looking forward to passing on the painting to my daughter some day.

19. How was it working with the artist?
It was a great experience!

20. From the model's perspective, what did you find most interesting about watching the artist paint?
His attention to detail, his concentration, and his ability to paint and carry on a conversation at the same time.
